Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC)

The Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC) in Bowling Green, Kentucky, houses one of the largest performing arts halls in the Kentucky region. Highlights of its arts facility include a 1,800-seat state-of-the-art performance hall that serves as the home of Orchestra Kentucky; a 200-seat flexible studio theater for intimate theatrical productions; several multifunctional rehearsal halls and classrooms for students, schools, and local arts organizations; an outdoor amphitheater for “theater under the stars”; and the SKyPAC main art gallery and children’s art gallery that exhibit the works of youth, emerging and professional visual artists.

In. Mode Marketing was selected to help create website content, direction, and social media initiatives for SKyPAC before and after its opening in March 2012. Our efforts were centered on engaging the community, garnering support around the center’s opening and all activities that followed, and creating a verbal/visual ‘aura’ that showcased the center as the ultimate destination for the arts in south-central Kentucky.

The website in and of itself was conceived as a work of art, entirely referential to the center. As the ultimate source of information about SKyPAC, it served multiple purposes, from performance schedules and how to buy tickets to charitable donations from the community. With vibrant visuals, creative copywriting, and essential information about the how-to’s of the center and its workings, the vision for the site was “no stone unturned.” Ten years later, its multi-dimensional features are still lauded as state of the art for a website with tremendous growth from humble beginnings.

SKyPAC’s social media strategy, a communications plan built upon integrated, targeted messaging to inform and engage the community simultaneously, was launched eleven years ago when social media was truly taking off. It has since exploded exponentially; all of it started in. Mode in 2011 with only a few channels, including Facebook and Twitter, with tens of thousands of followers and subscribers.

The overall results: in. Mode brought the south-central Kentucky community together; businesses were, and continue to be, attracted to the Bowling Green area; and SKyPAC is considered one of the nation’s most outstanding artistic, must-see/must-do destinations for art lovers near and far.
